As I share this information with you, I don’t want you to feel like I’m your strict parent about to give you a lecture on your work ethic.

(Ok… brace yourself… lol)

Not at all.

Actually, I just want you to remember a few key things that you may have already picked up in your entrepreneurial journey that many of us need to revisit.

These are the things I have learned along the way and continue to remind myself to do on a daily basis…

Things I learned from top leaders, mentors (not necessarily ‘gurus’) and those who are actually out there doing stuff…

The words themselves are not that glitzy or glamorous, but they mean a lot to you in terms of how you perceive your own business and the services provided by others.

I’m talking about the SKILL of…

TAKING PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

And yes, I do mean it as a SKILL that can be learned.

No matter where you run your business, on or offline, you will have a much better experience when you maintain an ethic of personal responsibility.

Personal responsibility, for your business and yourself, is going to make a huge difference in the way that you select your gurus, tools, and courses of choice as you become a more experienced entrepreneur.

As you build on this ethic, several strategies are involved, such as:

Building up core personality skills that will help you in your business and even other important parts of your life.

Not blaming tools, courses, or gurus for any failures you experience.

Understanding that just as many people make money online as they can offline, and vice versa.

Careful reading of copy writing in sales letters and email offers.

Core personality skills you should have as an entrepreneur.

You need these skills under your belt because they will make many tasks so much easier to complete and will improve your relationships with prospects and business partners.

Communication with Others:

Be clear, direct, and concise.

You want to be understood as you deliver your messages.

Emails to your contacts should be insightful, informative (as necessary), and not pushy.

Your phone calls should usually be scheduled and follow an agenda.

If you drag on for too long over the phone, you will feel burnt out and so will the other person.

Emails and phone calls are great when they follow a structure and provide valuable information to the other person.

Not Blaming Others:

Maybe a popular course, product, or service caught your attention.

You invested in it and it didn’t work.

It won’t make sense to assign blame to something if it has worked well for many others.

Determine first that you followed all the steps before you declare that it is “useless.”

If your investment isn’t a good fit for your personality or your business, review the refund policy carefully…

But again, don’t assign blame to external forces (such as the company from which you made the purchase).

In the end, it’s really not their fault if you did not take the necessary steps to make sure you would be ok if you changed your mind about buying the tools they offered. Take control of the matter and review your options carefully.

Understanding money is made and lost online and offline:

Some of us might not succeed with our first online business, and that is okay.

Many wealthy entrepreneurs had to go through more than one opportunity before landing on the business that worked the best for them and brought them the results they desired.

That’s one of the great things about the network marketing industry.

You can start in a home business right away and the startup costs are almost always affordable.

This makes it easier for you to try out different things until you land on what feels the most natural and best matches your passions.

You can also run an offline business with just as much success as an Internet-based business.

Many people have started restaurants and boutiques with great success and despite any economic shifts, continue to do really well.

Reading and Writing Copywriting:

At this point you may have already gone through several sales letters about amazing support systems, tools for Internet marketing, or even personal development, and a lot of these are offered by “gurus.”

As you read the sales page, you have the opportunity to determine something about the expert offering the product or service and know right away whether they are a good match for you.

Some questions to consider are,

“Does this person speak to my passions?”

“Do I fully understand and relate to his/her message?”

“Is this a service/tool/course that speaks to the needs of my business?”

Not surprisingly, many people are quick to purchase something without reading the sales letter carefully.

They don’t take a moment to know the refund policy and when they do receive the course, they find that can’t make any use of it and become upset. This channels you back to the issue of not blaming others.

We all have a great level of responsibility for the investments we make, whether it’s a home business opportunity or tools for personal and/or business development.

Those entrepreneurs who refuse to take responsibility for these choices will continue to repeat a cycle of failure that will undoubtedly be hurtful to many of their business endeavors.

Bottom Line?

We are all human beings, and as such we are prone to being flawed.

This is not a bad thing at all, but the solution is to become aware of those flaws and become better people when we know our weak points.

The better you know your strengths, the more likely you are to select the gurus, tools, courses that best fit your personality type.

And the more aware you are of the differences in personality types, the better you will select the people who will join your business organization and cause it to thrive.

If your answer is as blatantly obvious as it is to mine, as I have hoped…

Congratulations!

You are about half-way to becoming wildly successful!

BUT, don’t celebrate too early just yet.

A fork is a utensil…a tool that helps

fetch food,

deliver food to our mouth,

and at which time,

if we decide to chew and swallow (or we can choose to swallow without chewing),

is when the food enters our body, nourishes our body, and gives it energy.

Oh, and before it all, what type of food did you choose to put in your body?

You see, It’s a series of choices…

Starting a business is a choice.

And YES, as EASY as it is to “sign up” for a network marketing opportunity… it is nonetheless a choice (and a serious one it shall be).

Making the network marketing opportunity a part of your business, instead of your entire business is a choice.

Jumping from company to company is a choice.

Subscribing to a training platform is a choice.

Following your favorite gurus is a choice.

(And yes, being a guru groupie is a choice. You know what I’m talking about.)

Taking action on the advice you learn from the gurus is a choice.

Using the tools correctly is a choice.

QUITTING, no less, is a choice, too…

I can go on and on and on… but by now you see where this is going.

So what are you choosing to do this very minute?

Perhaps…

Choose to ACT, instead of TALK?

Choose to LOVE, instead of CONDEMN, COMPLAIN or CRITICIZE?

Choose to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY instead of BLAME?

Choose to CHOOSE instead of GOING WITH THE FLOW?

Choose wisely, my friend.

Life is perfect the way it is.

If you’ve been following me or the Build A Magnetic Network show for a while, you know I love people, I love making new friends and helping others.

If there is anyone that I genuinely want to get to know and make a connection with…

I open up my eyes and perk up my ears for opportunities to build up a friendship with that person.

I crack open the worn and only copy of How To Win Friends & Influence People that I possess.. and read through that darn thing time and again.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet 26-year-old gentleman who is also a peak performance coach by the name of Jairek Robbins.

Jairek was one of the speakers at an event called No Excuses Summit.

His talk was truly inspiring and empowering… and the majority of the 800 people attending the event happened to share the same opinion.

To my amazement… he’s been speaking since he was 18 years old!

And to make a long story short, he and I had a chance to chat on the hallway… we really hit it off and kept in touch ever since.

So, I’m going to be hanging out with him this weekend and taking some time to do a 1-on-1 interview in the process.

Last night I had the opportunity to attend a networking event hosted by Dr. Ellie Drake of Brave Heart Women.

While I’m obviously not a women (duh!) I was invited as part of the “Social Media Buzz-Making” panel.

It was quite a powerful experience.

The event was a cocktail reception to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Ellie and her husband Charlie as well as a kickoff of their upcoming event.

There were MANY high-powered celebrities there (you can see them on my Facebook wall).

Mari Smith, the social media queen.

Larry Benet, the founder of SANG (Speakers & Authors Network Group), a private master-mind group of speakers and authors such as Tony Robbins, Joel Bauer,

Jack Canfield, Les Brown and Robert Allen.

Emma Tiebens, The Relational Marketer.

Diyana Alcheva of Social Media Press.

And of course, yours truly ;P

I felt extremely energized by being present at the event and connecting with top leaders.

I reconnected with Larry Benet who taught me the art of connecting with high-profile individuals 2 years ago.

I got to meet Katie Freiling of The Unified Tribe for the first time and will be featuring her interview very shortly.

I knocked out a couple of JV deals as well.

However, I wanted to share with you a very SOBERING discovery…

And this discovery is that it is important that we realize and appreciate how fortunate and blessed you are to have leaders and trainers that take the time and energy to help the greenies/newbies, because while there are those who do, there are many who don’t.

As you may remember, I’ve devoted the last 7 months or so working behind the scenes with my business partners Tom and Kim Challan make Priority Team, the go-to training and support platform in the industry…

While it’s been a rewarding experience, I’ve felt a bit empty by missing out the live networking and interviewing process that have brought so much value and hope into many entrepreneurs’ lives, including my own.

Perhaps these interviews have impacted YOUR live?

Inspiring stories from leaders who shared their stories from when they were brand-new greenies in the world of business to multiple 6, 7 or even 8 figure earners.

Their success secrets.

Their strategies and tips.

The newbies deserve a chance…

BUT the newbies also MUST take the initiative and be proactive.

The newbies also MUST be willing the have the attitude of being the hungry, teachable student.

If you are the newbie, do your part and make yourself visible to the leaders that you’re learning from.

If you are the leader others are looking up to, please give the eager newbie some love

Whew… got that out of the way.

You know I don’t *normally* post stuff like this… but let’s face it…

What’s *normal,* anyway?

This video is about a guy who was determined to do a little experiment on an apparent web phenomenon called “Chat-roulette.”

I have never used Chat-roulette but have heard some interesting stories from a few friends.

So what does this have to do with your home business?

Well… lots

Allow me to explain.

Lesson #1: KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

Marketing provides by far the highest leverage a business can possibly wish for in terms of ROI (return on investment).

Chat-roulette’s marketing is based almost entirely off of word of mouth advertising.

(Word of mouth advertising… sound familiar?)

So this guy Casey conducted a personal experiment to explain Chat-roulette’s demographics:

The results came out to: 71% Male, 15% Female and 14% Pervert.

How about THAT for real stats, huh ?

Lesson #2: HOW TO GET ATTENTION, APPEAL TO, AND BUILD RAPPORT WITH THAT AUDIENCE

This BIG lesson came at the 3:00 mark.

He did something interesting to DRAMATICALLY reduce the ratio of being “nexted” by others.

In fact… 10 TIMES less likely to be nexted!!!

Insanity – Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

As network marketing professionals, we’re taught to learn the ropes from those that have done it before and duplicate their efforts.

It is a beautiful concept…

Duplicating like carbon copies…

With only one challenge.

Human intervention.

Humans are dominated by their emotions (yes, I’m the analytical type, yet I have to admit to this fact!)…

And emotions dictate our lives, which means we MUST learn to not only adapt, but adjust.

We’re very much in a relationship business, and that’s what makes me LOVE this industry so much.

The people.

But in order to succeed in this business, we MUST develop the relationships with our teammates…

And before they are teammates, they were prospects…

And before they were prospects, they were strangers…

I’m sure you got the message here.

How we handle that FIRST conversation has profound effects on not just our eventual outcome in business, but also all the steps in between!

If you’ve been going through the motions of trying to “show them the plan” but having limited or no success at all, there’s probably a few things that need to be tweaked (hint: it’s sometimes external, but MOSTLY internal… SHOCKING, isn’t it?).

I’m friends with a good group of leaders in the industry…

and they’ve never ceased to amaze me with their specific individual talents in different areas of the business.

Mike Dillard’s brilliance in building info marketing funnels that deliver great value to the customers…

Jim Yaghi’s unanimous status as the king of getting leads from Pay-Per-Click marketing…

Fernando Ceballos’ uncanny ability to help people (including me!) dominate Google search results to build their lists…

And I suspect that you can learn a thing or two from this guy who’s perfected the art of connecting with people, following up and turning them into teammates/downlines and money! (with a ton of results to back up my opinion of him)!

Take Baby Steps To Make History

This photo on the left is a piece of network marketing history.

I took it while hanging out with Mike Dillard at the Magnetic Sponsoring headquarters last November.

It is a photo of a physical copy of the ORIGINAL Magnetic Sponsoring manual that Mike Dillard wrote to support his network marketing team before making it available to the public.

Yes, at that time he was still waiting tables at P.F. Chang in downtown Austin.

Oh, by the way, if you have not heard of Mike Dillard (you’ve probably been under asleep under a rock )… he went from waiting tables to building a MASSIVE 8-figure info-marketing and direct-sales business within 18 months.

It’s hard to see this from the photo, but the report was printed with a cheap ink-jet printer with some smudges on the cover and held together with low-quality comb binding.

You see, Mike made do whatever he was able to string together at the time to move forward.

He took baby steps along the way… getting rejected over and over again, studying copywriting, attending seminars, etc.

Are you taking baby steps to move forward in your business?
